The Hague and Leiden are also close to Amsterdam. The Hague has some great museums. Den haag !! Leiden and Haarlem much older.

Both are very accessible from Amsterdam Centraal train station. Haarlem is a 20-minute train ride while the Hague (Den Haag Centraal) is less than 40 minutes.

There's no right or wrong answer. Haarlem is closest and is absolutely worth spending a day in if you're in Amsterdam.
